SILVER BULLET PRODUCTIONS’ LEADERSHIP

Silver Bullet Productions has completed educational film projects in New Mexico’s rural and Native American communities including Cochiti Pueblo, Dulce, Fort Sumner, Milan, Taos Pueblo, Gallina, Jemez Valley, Tatum, Zia Pueblo, Kewa Pueblo, Laguna Pueblo, Acoma Pueblo, Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo, and Santa Clara Pueblo as well as projects with statewide influence on public education: parenting best practices, truancy, the achievement gaps, the pledge by students to graduate in the Centennial Year, and the importance of both teachers and parents.

Pamela A. Pierce

CEO and President and Co-Chair, has training in law, education, and child advocacy. An attorney for the past 20 years, specializing in children’s issues and mediation, she is licensed in Tennessee, South Carolina, and by the United States Supreme Court. For 15 years, Pam taught in public and private schools. As a special educator and learning specialist in the Baltimore Washington area, she directed Study Skills programs, identified learning styles, creating diagnostic instruments for this purpose, and conducted workshops for teachers, administrators, and parents.  Pam was the Executive Director of the New Mexico Coalition for Charter Schools. A trained Mediator, Pam is an associate with Infinite Dispute Resolution Services. Pam served on the Governor’s Council for Media in New Mexico. Pam is the founding partner and President and CEO of Silver Bullet Productions.

Nicoll Durrie

Executive Vice President and Co-Chair, brings 40 years of film and video production experience to Silver Bullet. He has served as President, CEO, and CFO of television production companies such as National Geographic Television, ABC Network and Walt Disney Co., Time-Life Films, and also several independents. During his career, he has managed production, financing, and distribution activities for more than 800 hours of programming for TV networks. Nick currently serves as Chairman of the Board of the Santa Fe Film Festival, and has served for many years as Chairman and Trustee of a not-for-profit organization in Washington, D.C. Nick serves as Executive Vice-President and Co-Chairman of the Board of Directors and is on the Nominating, Film, Fundraising, and Executive Committees.

Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, is a seasoned CFO with comprehensive experience in senior financial management of publicly owned, multinational consumer products companies. Bob has experience in all aspects of corporate financial management, including the development of financial organization and reporting processes, direction of internal and external financial reporting, management of debt and equity financings, and formulation of strategic direction. He was formerly Executive Vice President and CFO of Carson, Inc., Executive Vice President and CFO of Maybelline, Inc., and Senior Vice President, Administration and Finance and CFO of Noxell Corporation. He was also Audit Manager of Arthur Young & Company.

Phil is a CPA with 25 years of very broad business experience as an auditor, as a controller, and as Vice President of finance and operations; he has expertise in tax matters, accounting, and treasury activities, plus expertise in general finance and operations management. Phil has specialized in the real estate and construction industries. Phil currently is the General Manager and Chief Financial Officer of the Las Campanas Water Cooperative and is Controller for the Las Campanas Homeowners Association. Phil serves as Chair of the Finance Committee for Silver Bullet.

Ward Russell

Ward Russell

 

 

A cinematographer for 25 years, Ward has photographed such motion pictures as Days of Thunder, The Last Boy Scout and The X-Files. Ward has also photographed more than 500 television commercials. As a gaffer, he lit such films as Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop II, and Revenge. Ward previously was Lighting Designer at The American Conservatory Theatre, The San Francisco Opera, and the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego. He is a member of the International Cinematographers Guild, American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP), and a founding member of the Professional Advisory Board to the Theatre and Film Departments of the University of Kansas. Besides his film assignments, Ward runs WARD RUSSELL Photography, Fine Art and Portrait Studio/Gallery in Santa Fe. Ward serves on the Film Committee.

Beverly Morris

Beverly – Aleut –Qawalangin Tribe of Unalaska, Alaska – is a Producer/Director and the owner of Chain Reaction Productions, a Native American film and graphic design company that develops, produces, and directs video projects for and about Native Peoples and Environmental Issues. Chain Reaction serves as consultants in research and training methods for documenting oral and tribal histories. Ms. Morris has 16 years’ experience in producing and directing a broad range of video and radio productions, independently and with local and national cultural and arts organizations. Ms. Morris has had a major role in research, development, production, and direction of 25 video productions on American Indian arts, cultures and histories. Beverly serves on the Film Committee.

JoAnn Melchor

JoAnn Melchor  

JoAnn is from Santo Domingo Pueblo, New Mexico and has extensive experience working with youth, parents and communities throughout New Mexico, the U.S. and Latin America. She currently is the Executive Director of Southwest Youth Services, a non-profit founded in 2004, based at the Native American Community Academy campus in Albuquerque, NM. The mission is to provide positive youth development through educational, health and wellness and youth leadership components in partnership with Native American communities and organizations. JoAnn is a lifelong volunteer for programs and educational activities that promote the well being of children and positive development of communities. JoAnn serves on several local boards and is on the Education Committee of Silver Bullet.

Gayle Wein

Gayle joined the Board of Directors of Silver Bullet in March 2007. She was Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the Westmark Group; Westmark was a management consulting firm with clients such as Hilton Hotels, Sears Roebuck, and Efunds and operates out of Santa Fe. Prior to joining Westmark in 1997, Gayle spent 19 years with Zenith Insurance Company in San Francisco, responsible for marketing and collections. She has a degree in marketing and sociology from California State University at Northridge. In addition to her service to Silver Bullet on the Fundraising and Event Committees, Gayle also volunteers at the Agua Fria School’s pre-school program.

Matthew J. Martinez

Matthew was born and raised at Ohkay Owingeh. He completed his Ph.D. in American Studies and American Indian Studies at the University of Minnesota. He is currently the Director of the Northern Pueblos Institute and an Assistant Professor of Pueblo Indian Studies at Northern New Mexico College. Prior to Northern he served as the Director of Indian Education at the New Mexico Higher Education Department where he worked to advance a number of initiatives designed to increase opportunities for American Indian students. In 2007, Matthew served a one-year appointment on the Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Council. He is an active member on the Ohkay Owingeh School Board and is the grandson of the revered story-teller, Esther Martinez. Matthew serves on the Education and Film Committees of SBP.

Anne is an executive coach, consultant, and educator with over 35 years of professional experience. She has worked with numerous Fortune 100 corporations and two leading business schools on implementation and design of programs to address entrepreneurship and leadership challenges. Anne’s strength as coach and consultant is to assist individuals and multi-cultural teams to achieve step changes in performance through new behaviors and working practices. She is a published author and received her B.A. in mathematics; she is also a graduate of the London Business School. Anne will head the new Strategic Planning Committee for SBP.

Katherine B. Miller

Katherine has over 17 years of experience in public and business administration, financial management, investment advising, and procurement, working both in the US and abroad. She was recently named as the Santa Fe County Manager after having served for 4 years as Cabinet Secretary for the New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration. Katherine has managed staffs of over 190 employees with direct annual budgets of $90 million. She has implemented multi-billion general and annual operating and capital budgets for the State of New Mexico over the last 4 years. She has served on numerous boards and task forces including the Public School Capital Outlay Oversight Task Force; as Board Chair of the Public School Capital Outlay Council; as a member of the NM State Community Development Council; as a member of the Tribal Infrastructure Board; and as an advisor to the NM Community Foundation. She also served on the Community Development Block Grant Council, the Governor’s Fitness Council, and the Governor’s Higher Education Task Force in 2003/2004. Katherine will serve on the Board’s Finance Committee.

Conroy Chino

Conroy Chino  

Conroy is a former television reporter and news anchor in Albuquerque and Los Angeles, where he generated a significant viewer following, both Indian and non-Indian, by producing award-winning stories. He has also produced a number of feature length PBS documentaries including Looking Toward Home, an exploration of urban Indian life in U.S. cities. He helped write, produce, and narrate the award-winning PBS documentary Surviving Columbus, and in 2007 wrote and produced A Defining Moment. He continues to produce documentaries, provide voice over work, script writing, and on-camera talent. He created Chino Works, a Native-owned company, whose primary purpose is to provide lobbying services and strategic political counsel to tribes. He was raised at the Pueblo of Acoma, speaks Keresan and English, and has served as an appointed tribal leader. Conroy serves on the Board’s Film Committee.

Jan Chavez Wilcynski

Jan co-owns a small consulting business in New Mexico which provides business strategy, community involvement and human resources services to commercial and government contracting firms. She retired from a 32 year career in the Federal government in 2007. Her last government position was as a member of the Senior Executive Service with the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) at Los Alamos, where she was involved with the 8 Northern New Mexico Pueblos on behalf of NNSA. Her work in various positions with the Federal government, and at a small bilingual college in Oregon in the mid 1970s, involved Hispanic, Native American and rural populations in various educational and economic development areas. She has a long-held interest in film and working with youth. Jan serves as Secretary to the Silver Bullet Productions Board of Directors, and is on the Board’s Development and Marketing Committee.

ADVISORS TO SILVER BULLET


Larry Clyde: former board member and Chair of Finance Committee of Silver Bullet Productions since its inception, Larry has many years of experience in all fields of corporate finance and banking.

Bruce McKenna: award-winning head writer and co-Executive Producer of the highly acclaimed “The Pacific” series on HBO and also writer of the series “Band of Brothers.” Bruce is presently working on a screenplay for a film about the Battle of Midway.

Eric Adler: Co founder and Managing Director of the SEED Foundation, the nation’s only public access college prep boarding school for inner city children. The SEED Foundation is now working on opening additional similar schools in Washington, D.C., Baltimore, California, and elsewhere.

Sandy McGovern Durrie: television executive for developing brands including National Geographic Channel, The Discovery Channel, Weather Channel, Bravo, Learning Channel; president of McGovern Media Associates.

Maura Studi: actor, singer, producer, screenwriter and instructor, and has been in the entertainment business her entire life; she is the daughter of actor Jack Albertson and is married to actor Wes Studi. Maura is dedicated to the preservation of indigenous languages and serves on the Board of the Indigenous Language Institute.

Hampton Sides: Writer and Historian, the author of Ghost Soldiers, winner of the 2002 PEN USA Award for nonfiction works, Hampton served as the editor for Outside Magazine, and authored the acclaimed Blood and Thunder, An Epic of the American West. Hampton is well known for his insights and interest in the West, in particular the plight of the Navajo and the legend and life of Kit Carson.

Michael McGarrity: a best-selling and award-winning author of numerous fictional books that draw heavily from his varied previous careers in criminal justice and psychotherapy and counseling.

Karen Sanchez: a marketing, public relations, and sales consultant in Santa Fe and a New Mexico native, Karen has worked for and consulted with United Way of Santa Fe, Simmons, Media, Santa Fe Public Radio and Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce as board member and consultant.

Caroline Invicta Stevenson: is the daughter of Director Robert Stevenson and renowned British film star, Anna Lee, and goddaughter of John Ford; she serves on both the Governor’s Film Council and the Rodeo Commission.

Ronald R. Valeggia: a veteran of a career in corporate financial and technology matters in various senior executive positions, Ron provides consulting advice and leadership in the areas of strategic planning and capital formation. He serves numerous volunteer organizations, and chairs a major East Coast off-Broadway theater company and also chairs the board of the Atlantic School in New York.

Kirk Ellis: award-winning writer/producer of numerous television programs and feature films. His most recent success is the 7-hour miniseries for HBO “John Adams” which won more Emmy nominations and awards than any TV show in history other than “Roots.” Mr. Ellis wrote and co-produced ABC’s “Anne Frank” and received the Western Writers of America award for the recent “Into the West” shot mostly in New Mexico. Kirk and his wife, Sheila, reside in Santa Fe.
